The Quay II

The Quay II - VIC

Location: Torquay, Victoria

Client:  Intrapac Property

This project is a continuation of another “Quay” development in the area.

Landsite was involved in the landscape feasibility concept planning for the original landowners back in 2011, as a separate exercise to the Quay II project. Once Intrapac Property acquired the site, they engaged Landsite to become the Landscape architects to do the landscape masterplan, streetscape design, reserve designs, documentation and implementation management in 2016.

There are a number of open space areas associated with this project including a large playground, which sits upon a natural amphitheatre. The design of this playground works in harmony with the topography of the site, retains retain significant trees and provides ocean views across Torquay and into Bass Strait.

Another smaller park within the development is designated as a community orchard, as another nod to the site’s former life as a working farm. We have designed an orchard of stone fruit, apple and citrus trees as well as seating areas

Water sensitive urban design was required to deal with the drainage swales and design a large water quality wetland system.

The challenges with this project have been working with significant remnant vegetation (particularly Moonah trees) that while may have a reduced aesthetic appeal, are an important environmental and cultural part of the area, with some being several hundred years old, predating European settlement.
