Whitton Malt House
Whitton Malt House
Location: Leeton, NSW
Client: Voyager Malt and Southern Cotton Gins
Collaborators: FT Design Studio (Architecture)
The Whitton Malt house is a purpose built tourist facility located on the Whitton-Leeton Road, Leeton (Western NSW) aimed at celebrating local agriculture in the form of grains used in the distilling of high grade spirits and whiskey’s. The site is also associated with a local cotton gin, owned by Southern Cotton.
The facility provides a visitor centre and restaurant showcasing local wares and is located on grounds with an artificial lake, landscaped gardens, function spaces, lakeside accommodation and camping/RV areas. The lake, surrounds and landscape spaces are popular for functions including weddings.
Landsite was engaged to provide services including the unifying of an initial site masterplan prepared by local architects; tying together lake edge treatments, lake and broader landscape circulation, key landscaped and themed spaces, creation of a lakeside waterfall experience, an entry experience with car parking, forecourt and gardens associated with the visitor centre and restaurant.
Our role included initial concepts leading into landscape documentation for various areas of the project site.
Landscape implementation was undertaken by the client utilising in-home expertise and local trades over an extended period of time. The site has now developed into a regional drawcard with extensive patronage of the facility throughout the year.
